Microsoft revealed a new computer platform today called Surface. At first, I thought, "the touch-screen table?"
No, Surface is a new computer. Actually, it's not really a new computer. It's a tablet PC running Windows 8. But hang on, Windows 8 comes in 2 version: Windows 8 and Windows RT.
I admit it's a bit confusing. Most people will not understand the differences between Windows 8 and Windows RT because they are both being promoted as "Windows 8." There are significant differences between those 2 operating systems.
Well, let's go back to this new cool tablet that was announced today. Here's how their website describes Surface:
"Surface is thin, light and it has a great battery. At 9.3mm, Surface for Windows RT is just thin enough to still sport a full sized USB port. Print, share, or charge your phone on the go. Head out knowing that you are ready for anything."
I like the fact that this new tablet will support pen-based input. I'm still a bit old-fashioned and I like to jot down notes during a meeting. I also like the idea of a multi-touch keyboard that "clicks" onto the tablet. I'm looking forward to testing this one when it comes out!
